When was the last time you saw an instructional guide on how to wash your hands? I'm guessing it had to do with elementary school for most of you. I'm pretty sure that's the last time I saw such as sign. Well, that is until I started my new job.
On my first day in the new job I took a trip to the restroom, as is necessary on a daily basis. As I was on my way out the door I noticed a sign, a laminated sign, with graphical steps on how you should properly wash your hands. Now being a trained technical writer, I had to read it. And then I had to laugh. What kind of business thinks their employees are so dirty they don't know how to wash their hands? Every day I've passed the sign and laughed.
Then one day last week, I realized why the sign is there. I was in my stall minding my own business when I heard a toilet flush and a person walk out the door of the restroom without washing her hands. Come on! There's even a sign to show you how right by the door! So...it's good to know that I work with at least one person who doesn't know that washing hands after using the facilities is necessary (or at the very least, a social nicety). It makes me look back on my first day and all the hands I shook and...

ew. Did you scope out the shoes under the stall to see who it was?
awww finally back to your ol' obervant self...love it...of course we know there are people like that out there which always leads me to the dilema when i leave a public bathroom, ok so what part of the door handle do i grab that is the least used so that i dont make the fact that i do wash my hands a waste of time by touching the area where the nonwashers grab....hmmmm
