Funny Stories

My nephew has recently started making up stories. First he starts by asking me if I'll tell him a story, but I'll ask him to make one up instead.

Here's one of his stories (keep in mind...he's three):

"Once upon a time, a little boy sees a police car. A little boy sees a smpoize mar. A little boy sees a skmeemz splar. A little boy sees a pimeekson blarf. Graaaaarrrrrrrkkkkkkszzzzzzzzsssssfp. The end."

I tried to get him to add, "And they lived happily ever after" but he wasn't buying it. I guess he doesn't like my editing. He has his own sense of how the story should be told.

Welcome Back...

Welcome back thunder! Nothing says Spring(!) like the first thunderstorm...(unless it's the first severe thunderstorm). This morning as I was sitting at my desk (I got to work really early) I heard that wonderful rumbling sound and I smiled. Yesterday's grouchiness melted away with the sound of thunder.

However.

Then I heard "loud rain". I thought to myself, "Hmm....rain isn't typically that loud. Maybe I've forgotten what rain sounds like in this building."

Nope.

It was hail. Ugh. I don't like hail (does anybody?). I hope it wasn't bad enough to hurt my pretty SUV. I doubt it was bad enough for that or I would have heard a lot of people complaining on their way to their workstalls.

Still...I'm glad it's time for thunderstorms again.

Bacon Anyone?

I just got back from a quick trip to Target and decided to pick up my favorite sandwich at Jimmy John's. Yum. I waited my turn and stepped up to the counter to order the #6. The Vegetarian. (For those of you who don't know, I don't eat meat.)

I merrily went on my way back to the office. I unwrapped my sandwich and took a bite...paused...and opened the sandwich. Yep, it's piled with bacon. Ugh. So after removing all those strips of bacon (six to be exact), I'm left with a lettuce and tomato sandwich. No guacamole. No sprouts. No CHEESE! Bummer.

So here I sit with my computer, a mug of water, and a huge pile of bacon. Any suggestions on what to do with the bacon?

My Apologies

Phew! It's been a busy week. I can't seem to find the time to post anything new. I'm even running behind on my reading and commenting! Aagh! Normally I have some slow time during the work day, but not lately! I don't want to lose my readership or make others think I quit reading their wonderful blogs! I promise to catch up this weekend. Maybe even a good post out of me. Stranger things have happened.

Wow pt. 2

So many of you enjoyed my post about Paul Potts that I had to post this other one. It shows a little more info on him and includes his final winning performance. Enjoy!

Monday Blahs

Mondays blow. Mondays that are rainy and cold blow even more. Mondays that are cold and rainy and I have to get blood drawn....well....REALLY blow.

Yep, I had blood drawn this morning. I don't mind needles a bit. But my veins are notoriously impossible to find. I warn people every time. Luckily the nurse took heed of my warning today. She tried one arm and decided to send me to the lab across the hall to someone who draws blood all the time. She got it in one try on the back of my hand (to my great surprise). Now, many of you are probably saying, "ouch!" But really, the back of the hand is way less painful than someone digging around multiple times on each arm before giving up and trying the hands, only to fail there and move to the top of my arm. Yep, that's been my fortune before. So today, when I only had one bad attempt, I was overjoyed! Bruised, but overjoyed.

Now if only my cholesterol test comes back as good (not holding my breath).

Door Meet Finger, Finger Meet Door

I'll admit it. I am a klutz. I've injured myself in many ridiculous ways. Ever get YOUR fingers caught in a hand mixer? I have.

This morning I had to get my water container out of my car because I forgot to bring it in the house last night. As I went to shut the door on my SUV, my finger decided to get in the way. (Yes, it has a mind of it's own!) So after screaming a loud curse word (or two), I looked at the damage. I'd cut my index finger and it was already bruised and throbbing. I was impressed that I actually managed to bruise a finger. (That's a rarity for me, even though I bruise if something barely touches me.)

So imagine how hard it is to type this with a bruised, cut, and throbbing finger. That shows you how dedicated I am to blogging. SOME good has to come from my pain.

Just One More.....Bag

I have a love-hate relationship with these perfectly wonderful/evil pillows of succulence. Yes, I love these Reese's Peanut Butter eggs. EVERY year I fall victim to them. I can't pass them by. I THINK I'll be able to control my ability to eat them. But...in reality, I cannot. So I HATE that they control me. What is it about these tasty eggs? I don't fall victim to the other Reese's holiday treats. It's just the eggs. Those glorious abominations.

I had lunch with Monnik today (yay for sushi) and after mentioning my desire to escape this confection's peanut buttery clutches, she suggested I try to picture something gross on them to trigger some aversion. So...I'll try thinking about spiders crawling all over them....

....after I finish these last two in the bag.

Idea of the Day

I went to Target over lunch today. (Yay Target!) On my way there I passed by an elementary school. As I was slowly driving by I noticed that EVERY vehicle parked there was a minivan or an SUV. Then I had an idea....that would be the perfect place to shop for a minivan or SUV...I mean you have almost every make and model lined up for you right there. Sure you can't get in the vehicle or test drive, but you could at least narrow your options on what body style you want. And maybe some smart car dealers could install a brochure rack, so that once you narrow down your choices, you can research further.

So that's my idea of the day.

;)

Sunday Morning Fun

Today I spent a few hours volunteering for the zoo at KidsFest. When I originally volunteered I heard a lot of people tell me I'd regret it, since KidsFest can be a madhouse. So I was prepared going in that I might very well have wished I'd never signed up. But I was completely surprised. It wasn't that bad at all. Of course, I did work the early shift, so that helped, but for the most part, people were friendly and the chaos was at a minimum. I did see a few interesting things, but the most surprising was a 3 year old girl with mascara on. Mascara! How do you even get a 3 year old to sit still to get mascara on?!

The local TV sponsor of the event had its booth directly across from the zoo, so in the few slow periods, I could watch local news anchors tape segments with kids. They also had their helicopter in the building, so that was interesting to see. I'm sure it was a hit with kids.

This whole event vastly differed from all of my other zoo volunteering as I've pretty much only fed the giraffes and helped with the education animals. All in all, I found it was a great experience, but I can't wait for the warmer weather when I can get back to the giraffes.

Friday Video

I'm having one of those extreme I-hate-work days. I think I probably should have stayed in bed.

So I'll just add my Friday "video". Yes, I'm lazy. I'll try write something more interesting/entertaining this weekend.

Night Fights?

I've been waking up recently with injuries on my hands. Scraped knuckles to be exact. How am I getting them? I don't think my walls are rough enough to cause it, so am I doing something else in my sleep to make my knuckles look like I was in a fight?

So far I have two knuckles scraped on my right hand and this morning I found a scrape on my left thumb. What's next? A black eye? A split lip?

A Boring Weekend

Well, the weekend is almost over. Boo. What did I do? Nothing very productive. I was GOING to read a book. I didn't. I watched TiVo, cleaned a bit and chiseled away at the remains of my driveway ice instead. Yes, exciting times here.

I headed out for a quick trip to the grocery store this afternoon and on the way back decided to take a little detour and drive through the neighborhood a bit. There's a street nearby that has a reputation for beautiful homes, but I'd never driven through. Oh. My. God. I want to live THERE! The homes are beautiful! They kind of have an old world feel to them and just look like they've been around a long time. I'm pretty sure the CEO of the division I used to work for lives around there. Lucky bastard.

Anyway...if I suddenly start earning something like 5 times my salary, maybe I can buy a place over there. A WebGal can dream....
