Movies Anyone?

Yesterday I went to see my most anticipated movie of the year. Yes, "The Simpson's Movie". It was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know back when the movie was first announced I thought it was a bad idea. The show has been running for 18 seasons and it just seemed like it was too late for a movie. But it turned out great. Not too long, funny, and it was really true to the series. Definitely a thumbs up. I might even go again sometime to see what I might have missed while laughing.

This afternoon I decided to watch a completely different type of movie. I downloaded it to my TiVo a couple of weeks ago and hadn't watched it yet. "Letters from Iwo Jima". Let me just say...see this movie. Now, be prepared to read the subtitles, but it's worth it. Fantastic movie.

So there you have it. I think I watched about the most extreme opposite spectrum of movies I possibly could and enjoyed them both.

Jabba-the-Me

I'm officially thoroughly disgusted by my appearance. All of you know (the whole two of you that read this) that I hate how I look. I hate that I'm fat and all that jazz. I'm on WW and am making changes and all that jazz.

But today I got slapped in the face. Stabbed in the eyeballs. Accosted with the sight of a picture of me that I didn't know existed. I found it on a website for a group I belong to. It's a side view. It's awful.

I've always had a hard time matching my real body size to what my brain thinks it is. In my head I think I'm much skinnier than I am. I know I'm big, but I never think I look as bad as I do until I see the proof from a camera's perspective.

Today I think I've now seen the worst picture I've ever seen of me. And it was taken less than a month ago. I am so in shock and disgust from this picture I'm almost immobile. I need to lose weight and lose it now. I can't keep looking like this. It's hideous. It's like I'm wearing a fat lady costume.

Some of you know what I look like at a healthy weight, some of you don't. And it makes me sick that there are people I know who don't know me any other way than as this fat slob.

Now before you who are reading this think I'm depressed or sad. I'm not. I'm 100% not. Instead I'm rambling here hoping that my typing fingers will happen upon the key. The perfect inspiration for getting this fat suit off of my body once and for all. The perfect plan.

Since no such inspiration is revealing itself, I'll probably stop here. Time to regroup in my head. Time to form a plan. Time to make copies of this picture to hang up at home so I don't forget what I look like.

Pity Party

I'm sick. I was sick yesterday too. It's just a cold...but I feel horrible and have a fever which makes me feel even worse.

This is the time when I most hate being single. For instance, last night I wanted food. I didn't want anything in the house, nor did I want to cook. So I had to drive to Hy-Vee. I really wish I could have had somebody go get food for me. Or make me food. Oh well.

I think I'll take a nap.

Introducing my new cat!

She doesn't have a name yet, but I have a new cat. A friend of mine had a cat she needed to give to a good home, so I decided to be that good home. I was thinking of getting a new cat (or two) soon, so this seemed like a good time. I'll probably get #2 (a kitten) soon so she has somebody to play with.

She's quite the cutie. She is finally settling down. She's pretty much the polar opposite of how Del was. She's very active, skinny, and short-haired. Right now she's looking at herself in my dining room mirror. She thinks she's the greatest thing ever put on this earth. Yes, all cats think that, but this one is even more vain than I've ever seen. And even with that I can't seem to get a truly good picture. But...I wanted to post at least something.

Names I've considered: Maki, Paris (Hilton), MeMe, Delilah (too close to Del though), and most recently Lulu. Nothing's quite stuck so far. She arrived with the name of Patches. I just don't see it. She needs another name. Hopefully I decide soon.

One more picture

I forgot to add this picture...it's my favorite of what I took. It probably doesn't show as well in this small version, but I really feel I got the depth of field and color contrast right on this one.

Picture time!

I wanted to share a few pictures I've been taking recently. They aren't all tortoise porn, you know.

Wham-Bam, Thank you...tortoise

I had another shift at the zoo today. I grow to love those giraffes more every time I come into contact with them.

During the break between feedings I took my camera around to take some pictures. I got a few reasonably good shots of the giraffes and lions. I wandered over to the sea lions and penguins and had some decent stuff there. But then I came across the giant tortoises. One was near the fence and I snapped a pic of him yawning (or so it appeared), but it didn't turn out. I moved on to other parts of the zoo. As I walked back later I noticed one was moving, so I stopped to watch. It soon turned into the tortoise porno I have pictured here. Yes, Barnaby the Tortoise was feeling frisky. And while this picture shows him in his...er...groove, that's nothing compared to the sound he makes while...uh...perpetuating his species... :) Yes, it was loud. It was gross. And it carried to many parts of the zoo.

After I snapped this picture I moved on, as I felt a little dirty photographing this intimate tortoise moment. But Barnaby's vocalizations followed me as I took off toward other parts of the zoo. I had to laugh though. I mean...how often do you get a picture like this?
