Two posts in one day? Wow!
So here's the deal...a friend of mine is following a dream of hers. It requires a lot of faith because she's going to give up her job and move to Africa to volunteer for a few months. That's HUGE! I'm soooooo in awe of her. How amazing to give of yourself like that! I'm sure this is going to be an awesome adventure for her and I totally wish her the best.
I also thank her for making me revisit something in my head. I want to do something like that. Not necessarily give up my job and moving to Africa...(but I wouldn't mind giving up my job). I've thought about this on and off for a while. I'm never quite sure WHAT or HOW or IF or SHOULD I. But it's always there. I'm supposed to do more.
And then it happens. I start making the excuses of WHY I CAN'T. The list changes. It grows and shrinks and fades and glows. It's always there.
I'm sure I'm not the only one. But what I'm wondering...how do people DO their dreams. How do they put the list aside? So if anybody reading this knows or knows somebody who knows, send them my link, you know?
Seriously. I want to know. Maybe we can start a list to help people like me overcome

I attended a conference last week and listened to a motivational speaker called the SUMO guy ( which means Shut Up and Move On - not in a rude way but meaning to Stop and re evaluate your priorities and needs - he was absolutely Fantatstic!
He talked about the "Doris Day" scenarion ( see below)actually creating your own future rather than leaving it to chance as Life is not a practice run - it's the real thing now. If you get a chance to have a look at his web site do - he also sells books which were selling like hot cakes at the conference and really good - it was www.paulmcgee.com
Overview of his Six "SUMO "Principles
Change Your T-Shirt. Take responsibility for your own life. (Remove the Victim T-shirt).
Develop Fruity Thinking. Take charge of your thinking. (Thinking affects Emotions, which in turn affect Actions, which always leads to Results). When you change your thinking, you ultimately change your results. We need help overcoming ‘Faulty Thinking’ which brings about undesirable results.
Hippo Time is OK. Understand how setbacks affect you and how to recover from them. (We all need time to wallow a little….. just be careful how long it lasts).
Remember the Beachball. Increase your understanding and awareness of other people’s world. (What colours you see of a huge beachball depends on your perspective). This will help to bring about more successful relationships.
Learn Latin. Change comes through action not intention. (Carpé Diem, seize the day). Exploring how to overcome our tendency to put things off.
Ditch Doris Day. Create your own future rather than leave it to chance. (Forget the attitude que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be). How to make your time on this planet the best that it can be.
Hope this helps ! x
Wow! Thanks for this great info. You are a regular fountain of knowledge Debbielou! I'll definitely take a look at that website!
Wow, debbielou, interesting stuff...
I don't have the answers, but I think it's like everything else. You just have to jump in and do it and ignore the list. Rip it up.
If I didn't have kiddos I think I'd join the peace corps or something. My brother did it and it was life changing for him....
If only I didn't have a mortgage...
I always wanted to do four things in my youth -
1.Drive a tractor
2. Shear a sheep (!?)
3. Jump out of an aeroplane with a parachute
4. Be shot out of a cannon (!!)
I have actually done 3 out of the 4 things - the idea of the cannon experience has wained slightly as I have aged and probably not really a very good idea - but I'm sure at the time if I had known someone who had a spare cannon in their back yard I probably would have had a go !!
Follow your dreams !! x
