Put a shirt on!

Going to the gym has it hazards. I could injure myself, or I could catch a cold from the germy people who use the equipment before me. I've noticed quite a few people wipe down the equipment after they get done with it. And that's great. But a few of them use their towel to first wipe the sweat off their face and then wipe off the cleaning spray. Does that really clean it? I refuse to use my towel before wiping down my machine. It just seems gross. But yesterday I saw a woman wipe her face and then the machine....and never used the spray. I think the machine would have been cleaner if she left it.

Another hazard of the gym is the locker room. I, personally, would never ever disrobe out in the open there, but I have really, really strong body issues. I know there are other people there who try to be modest too and either quickly change clothes or do the under the shirt bra changes. However yesterday I came across the gym exception. I walked down the hallway to the gym and turned the corner and was surprised to see some naked lady sitting by her locker. I was a bit taken aback since she was right by the door, but hey....maybe she just hadn't gotten to getting clothes on yet. I went in a different secluded section to change my shoes and hang up my coat. I expected when I passed back by that she'd be clothed again since I heard the hair drier. Nope. There she was at the mirror blow-drying her hair with just a towel around her waist. Seriously....do that at home, lady. If you want to showcase your bazoombas, get a job at Big Earl's, don't let them flop all over in the locker room.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everybody! I had my Easter dinner with the whole family yesterday. So I got to see Niece for the first time since Christmas. She's still as smiley as ever.

As we sat around playing with Nephew in the afternoon we decided it was a good time to do the Easter egg hunt. We asked Nephew, "Are you ready for an Easter egg hunt?" He said, "I'll go get my gun!"

It's that kind of Friday

Today I've been back at some Web Analytics. It's boring. I've spent most of my morning waiting for a report to finish running so I can extract the data. It even sounds boring when I write it.

I keep going to the software package and clicking on the refresh button to see the status. 73%...76%....76%....76%....you get the picture.

Nothing makes a Friday longer than boring work.

Ooooo....79%.

Del's Nightly Routine

So I've been getting some grief over not putting up a post yesterday. People....this writing is a carefully nurtured craft...it's not like I just sling whatever comes to mind up on here...

OK. I do sling whatever comes to mind up here. Consider the following....

I recently started paying attention to my cat's routine at night. He switches it up every so many months, but why? I mean...why the routine and then why the switch?

Currently, he sleeps most of the night on my right side. It can be fairly annoying because he's between me and my clock, my kleenex (Puffs actually), and my glasses. So I sort of have to roll on him to get them. He doesn't seem to care though.

Anyway....back to his routine. He sleeps there for several hours. Then he wakes up and turns toward me and stares. Naturally I wake up, because it's that freaky. So, I pet him and then he lays back down.

About an hour later he decides to get off the bed. Now, he does vary his route at this stage. Either he jumps off the bed from where he is...or....he decides to walk across my stomach (at 16lbs this is very noticeable) and head to the bathroom. It is there that I hear him begin to drink his water. How do I hear it? It's not the drinking of the water. It's how he scuffles his feet when he starts drinking the water (apparently that's HIS weird body connection). I don't really know what he does next...I'm back asleep by then. But I do know that lately I'll wake up and find him on my left side. Why? I'm not sure. Maybe he likes the change of scenery...

Now this routine isn't set in stone, but every bit of this is followed every night. Sometimes he adds in little special extras for me, such as hearing him puke or licking a plastic bag.

Yes, my cat is quite the character. And I put an entire blog to him.

Don't you wish you hadn't bugged me to write a new post? :)

**update** since I wrote a blog about my cat, I thought I should add this great link: http://www.stuffonmycat.com/

My weird right thumb

Last night I was back at the gym again (making it 4 days in a row....). I did some time on the elliptical and then moved to the treadmill to finish out my time.

While I was walking I thought about how fitness experts say you should tighten your ab muscles while you work out. So I figured, what the heck. I did it. And then my mind would drift and I'd notice I had relaxed my abs again, so I tightened them once again. It was then I noticed a strange thing happening. Every time I would tighten my abs my right thumb would involuntarily bend. I thought it was strange (as I'm sure you do too) and tried the process again. Same results. Now I was really curious. So I tried unbending the thumb while my abs were flexed. I could, but then my thumb would bend again. I have no idea what the relation was here, but eventually I just stopped tightening my abs because it's much more entertaining to watch the TV there than focus on my gooey abs.

Here's the kicker....when I was writing this today I decided to again see if my thumb would react the same way. After several attempts I find that it doesn't. All is normal with my thumb/ab connection today. Has this ever happened to anybody else? Do you have a weird body part connection? Maybe I'm just the only one weird enough to notice this sort of thing. It wouldn't surprise me.

The Idiot

***note: the following post contains technical jargon that may not make sense to many readers***

I work with an idiot.

He knows NOTHING about his job, and yet pretends he's an expert. He asks dumb questions over and over. If he doesn't understand the answer (and that's often) he seems to just take whatever minuscule part of the explanation he actually does understand and then morphs that into something he does, regardless of it being true or not.

He has a very strong need for everybody to look at him. His actions show it, his words say it, and his idiocy exemplifies it.

But today, he really surprised me. I thought I'd heard it all, but no. We got an email at work about server patching that's done monthly to ensure our servers are running properly and are defended against viruses. He doesn't understand that. For all I know, he thinks a server is a guy in another building pushing buttons to make pretty pictures pop up on the screen.

So what does he do? He goes to talk to the head of my department saying he's worried about all "this stuff going on in UAT". I'm not sure if he knows this...but....UAT is internal. Nobody sees it. He barely uses it to test. Now MAYBE if he'd have been worried about our Production Servers, I could understand his concern. But he wasn't. He was worried about a testing site. A testing site he isn't using.

Now that, my friends, is the idiot I work with who makes me wish I was deaf.

Ow.

I was a good WebGal this weekend and worked out at my gym on both Saturday and Sunday. No big deal? Au contraire mon frere. I've had my gym membership since early December and before this weekend, I'd probably been there 5 times tops. Not good. This is an expensive gym ($69/month), so it's not a smart move on my part to not use it.

ANYWAY....I walked on the treadmill on Saturday and felt pretty good about myself for it. On Sunday I decided I should go again. This time I worked on the treadmill and the EFX machine (basically an elliptical without the arms moving too). I set the machine to target my quads, hamstrings, and glutes. I could have adjusted it one more time to target my calves, but figured I'd just stick with where I was this first time. I did about 20 minutes on it in addition to the 20 on the treadmill. Afterwards I felt pretty good again.

This morning I woke up sore. Where? My calves. Huh? How does that happen? :)

I am glad I'm sore though. It makes me feel like I actually DID something at the gym if I'm sore. I'm hoping to stick with it and go again tonight. Wish me luck!
