The joys of townhouse living

Last night I attended my townhouse association's annual meeting. Now, in my last townhouse I attended the first two of these and then got sick of even bothering as we never had enough people there to do anything anyway.

So, I did consider not going to this meeting. Eventually I decided it would be nice to at least meet a few of my neighbors. I did. And it's the same thing as my last townhome association. Ridiculous. People on "the board" get all worked up over the stupidest things. For example...they want to enact a fine for people who don't change their outdoor light bulbs. Now...I understand that it makes things look a little dark in spots when people don't change their bulbs. But really...who cares? If the person who owns the townhome doesn't mind the darkness, why should neighbors across the street? People last night were talking about how frustrated they were with the townhouses across the street from them! It's not like these lights are the only lights we have and without them we become a crime-ridden ghetto! They're coach lights on a garage.

I think people like having things to complain about. It gives them a sense of purpose. Recently I read a great blog about that. It was on Dilbert creator Scott Adam's blog. Feel free to check it out. It's a good laugh. And know that my townhouse neighbors are a perfect example.

you should put one of those red or green bulbs in your garage light just to irritate your neighbors. Sounds like they're born complainers.

i love that Scott Adams post. I haven't had the chance to read him lately. I'll have to catch up one of these days.
