Watching the news reports and specials about the tragic events at Virginia Tech got me thinking about the guns that were purchased for this mass killing.
I'm not thinking that guns should be banned. I am however for some measure of gun control. Something is really wrong when people can just go out and buy guns and ammo and clips like this guy did.
But that's not the point of this post. What got me thinking is how parts of this country can introduce laws that restrict trans-fats in restaurants, but not a better control on selling a gun. How ridiculous our laws can be.
See...the thing is...people can choose not to eat that donut with trans-fat in it, but they can't choose to not get shot by the psycho with the gun. If we're going to be a "nanny state," shouldn't we be better at deciding what to protect people from?
I know this issue isn't black and white and I have no real solution...but it just got me thinking and I thought I'd share. This is not a post in jest. I seriously feel something needs to be done. I hope somebody smarter than me can figure that out.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and victims of yesterday's horrific events. It takes a strength beyond my understanding to pass through this kind of sorrow.

You are so right! I never thought about it that way. Protect us from our choices, but not from choices we can't make. Crazy! Would you consider submitting an article to the DSM Register to get others to think about how messed up our laws are for gun control? Maybe this is the type of tragedy that could change the future.
What a sad and needless loss for all the families and friends.
Oh...I'm not the article submitting type. It took all my courage just to post my opinion on here! :)
